Upcoming Workshops

“When there seems to be no time left at all, the old ideas and ancient ways that help the world survive are close at hand and waiting to be touched by us and become known again.”

~ Michael Meade

Elderberry Syrup.

Everyone seems to love Elderberry these days, and with good reason. Join us for a one hour maker workshop, and learn to make your own delicious syrup. Supplies can be purchased ahead of time to make alongside me, or you can just watch, ask questions, and make it when you’re ready. A supply and grocery list of suggested ingredients to have on hand will be sent before the workshop begins. All workshops will take place via Zoom and will be recorded.

Fire Cider.

Fire Cider is a delicious infused vinegar tonic that has received a lot of press in recent years. Learn to make this “old medicine” for your own pantry to support your family year round. A grocery list of suggested ingredients to have on hand will be sent before the workshop begins. All workshops will take place via Zoom and will be recorded.

Bee Well Honey.

In this one hour maker workshop you’ll walk away with a honey infusion of immune supportive powerhouse plants that you already use regularly in your kitchen. A grocery list of suggested ingredients to have on hand will be sent before the workshop begins. All workshops will take place via Zoom and will be recorded.

Why Old Ways?

The Handmade Life embraces “old ways” as the sharing of hands-on learning and survival habits that were once a part of our ancestors’ daily lives.

We believe these practices survived over time for a reason and that they deserve remembering and are worthy of sharing. They offer us creative, multi-sensory outlets that our bodies and brain crave, and the maker process affords us a space for focus and clarity of mind (think flow) where solutions to problems can present themselves. When my hands are busy and my brain is quiet, there’s some real magic that can happen in the space between, often in ways I don’t expect. Ideas and memories surface, and things that once seemed impossible now have clear solutions. In essence, I believe the maker process can be thought of as a form of meditation; a recipe for getting unstuck. Also, it’s often just plain fun, and a lovely way to spend time in community making useful things.

For all these reasons and more, The HML offers workshops for learning new projects and old skills alongside other makers. This year we will make everything from fire cider, to elderberry syrup, to upcycled old clothing creations, to fermentation, to soap.

And while we wholeheartedly embrace these ways of old, we also have gratitude for new ways too, that allow us to connect virtually! Sign up in the link above to stay in touch as both virtual and in-person workshops are offered.
